African Initiative group

To positively influence the status of microbiology education, practice and research in  Africa, the Caribbean and the African Diaspora. 

Objectives of the group:

A. To formulate a plan that will allow the group to be able to quickly assess the  microbiological needs of the various countries in Africa and the African Diaspora

B. To formulate ways to address more effectively the microbiological needs of the  various countries in Africa and the African Diaspora

C. To make recommendations to ASM and or Other Agencies which have the financial  resources to improve or implement our recommendations for ‘course of actions’. D. To bring together in the spirit of friendship and brotherhood, people of African Origin  and their descendants.

E. To facilitate scholarship for students in the field of microbiology who are in need of  financial aid 

F. To be a creative and active force in ASM and the United States of America for  promoting the best and most promising scientists of African descent.  G. To foster, through periodic and annual meetings, a spirit of good fellowship and  cooperation within ASM and with other microbiological organizations.
